Considering the increasing level of crime rate: burglary, thefts, and robbery, adapting any measure of securing your possessions would be understandable.
Knowing you have put your all into your business, it is okay to protect your office from every possible harm. One of the steps involved in the installation of commercial door locks.
Commercial door locks are different from the usual door locks used in residential buildings; their assemblage is strategically designed for increased strength and functionality.
Since not all doors in your commercial buildings would be the same, likewise commercial door locks are built to suit each type of door.
There are three(3) grades of commercial door locks which include:
- Grade 1
Grade 1 commercial door locks are developed to withstand the highest form of tension and are very different to breach. They have been tested and proven to be the strongest of all grades, with the longest lifespan.
They are used in high-security areas like museums, hospitals, and schools.
- Grade 2
They are the common choice often used in most commercial spaces and areas often used by people. They are durable enough to be used in lobby areas and offices.
- Grade 3
Grade 3 door locks are usually used for interior doors in the office and residential areas. They are not reliable enough to be used for exterior doors.
Types Of Commercial Door Locks
- Mortise Locks
Mortise locks are designed to be used in places where there is a lot of traffic. This accounts for their popularity in commercial spaces.
Mortise locks are usually accompanied by a pocket at the edge of the door where the lock case would be fitted into.
They are not only durable but they are also strongest and most adaptable enough for commercial doors.
- Deadbolt locks
Deadbolt locks are relatively easy to install although they are mostly used alongside other locks. This explains why they are capable of providing an extra measure of protection against burglaries and break-ins.
There are varieties of systems where deadbolt locks can be applied e.g manual unlock, automatic door lock systems, and magnetic door lock systems.
- Cylindrical Lever Locks
Its easy installation has made it popular in office security systems. It can either be operated with a key or a combination of a push button and a key.
It consists of the latch, the inside and outside rose, the inside and outside levers, the chassis, and the cylinder.
They are the best option in areas where there's no need for heavy security although they do not exactly give room for advanced security options.
- Panic/ Crash Bars
Panic bars are different from conventional office door locks. They are operated by pressing the connected handle (or bar) which retracts the latch keeping the door closed.
They are usually used in areas liable for emergencies howbeit extra caution must be taken to maintain them properly.
- Electric Locks/ Smart Locks
This is a better option for convenience and functionality. No key is needed for it to be operated inside pin codes, swipe cards, or mobile credentials are needed for its operation.
It can be used in conjunction with another door lock option in case there is a power outage.
